The Black Dog Freehouse has provided a unique niche in the area of Old Strathcona and the City of Edmonton since 1992 by providing an atmosphere unseen elsewhere.
Since it's inception, the Black Dog has maintained an equilibrium between its cutting edge promotions and its traditional roots. It has always been a haven for all walks of society regardless of stature. It is a place where young and old, suits and shorts can relax and enjoy themselves - free from the stigmas attached to most bars.

 

The Black Dog features the Wooftop Patio, Edmonton's only 2nd level, garden setting, full service patio that overlooks Whyte avenue. The recent addition of an enclosed second level adjacent to the patio provides an alternate Black Dog experience through all seasons.
The Underdog is a lower level room that offers an intimate and relaxed atmosphere - perfect for those that are looking for some place special. This room is available for private functions and features a separate entrance, stereo system, large screen HDTV with dvd  and surround sound and, of course, a full service bar.
